Benefits of Early Plant Sexing

With the advances in plant sciences, specifically genomics, it is now possible to determine the sex of your plants 7-14 days from seed germination using dna extracted from your plant. When you are growing cannabis for its medicinal benefits and have a plant count limited by law, the last thing you want to do is waste time and resources growing out a bunch of plants that turn out to be male. Yes, in many states you can go to a dispensary and supplement your medicine, but that is going to cost you a whole lot more than having them tested would in the beginning of your plant cycle. Trust me on this one, I speak from experience. The goal of the average medical home grower, ideally, would be to produce nothing but female cannabis plants. When your plant count and space both have limitations, early plant sexing is vital to keep your garden, and therefore your medicine, flowing. By utilizing early plant sexing technology, it eases the stress of not knowing if your time and labor is being wasted on plants that cannot provide your medicine. You are also saving money not wasting nutrients and the like. Some growers prefer purchasing feminized seeds for this purpose. It has been my experience and observation that feminized seeds tend to lead to unstable genetics. I can recall more people complaining of issues, including hermies, than people singing their praises. Another drawback of relying on feminized seeds is that they are available in limited strains. You will be leaving out an entire library of strains and varieties possessing medical benefits not available in feminized seeds. Genetic plant sexing is also a great way for seed producers and breeders to save time, energy and money. It's a lifesaver when you are specifically wanting males to produce pollen for preservation or for seed production.
